Our Heritage
Built on five generations of candle making
Ginger della Santina perpetuates the Ajello family’s long history that can be traced back to its birthplace in Sorrento, Italy. With an international reputation of creating some of the world’s most beautiful candles reminiscent of their Italian heritage, Ginger continues the legacy of her Ajello family.
Ginger’s grandfather, Antonino Ajello, opened his candle making business in New York in 1885. His daughter, Virginia Ajello Reardon, who was trained by her master craftsman father, opened her first shop in Beverly Hills in 1935. In 1963 Ginger joined her mother in the family business and they worked together for over thirty years until Virginia’s passing. Ginger acquired her own building in Culver City in 1979 where she set up shop and continued creating extraordinary and enduring designs that today now live on through Ginger’s hands.
With 135 years of history behind her, Ginger has added her own creations, carrying on the family’s tradition of being in the forefront of bringing elegant candlelight into people’s lives. In addition, House of Candles Culver City has been a major provider for over 40 years of special high-intensity burning candles to the entertainment industry as well as designer candles to the residential environment including candles wonderfully suited for gifts.
